Carla Escoda trained as a ballet and modern dancer at Ballet Philippines in Manila, with the Connecticut Ballet, and at Yale University, where she performed with the Yaledancers and received her B.S. and M.S. in Engineering & Applied Science with a double major in French Literature.

Having lived and worked in Asia for 17 years, she continues to travel the world while based out of San Francisco, whose joyously eclectic dance community she greatly admires. She teaches ballet, and writes reviews of dance, theatre and art in the Bay Area and farther afield for the blog, for the Huffington Post,  Bachtrack, Dance Europe, and KQED Arts. She has been a Google Glass Explorer since June 2013 and has produced an experimental dance film using the new technology.

Carla is an American Ballet Theatre ABT® Certified Teacher, who has successfully completed the ABT® Teacher Training Intensive in Primary through Level 7 and Partnering of the ABT® National Training Curriculum, a breakthrough eight-level program that combines high quality artistic training with the basics of dancer health and child development.
